Swaziland’s Princess Sikhanyiso Dlamini is making her first official visit to Taiwan June 11-15 at the invitation of the ROC government. The princess, who is accompanied by Princess Phumelele Dlamini, is heading a six-member delegation. The group hopes to learn more about Taiwan’s art and broadcast industries while enhancing bilateral cultural exchanges.

The Taiwan Textile Federation organized for the first time ever a delegation of six manufacturers to take part in the semiannual Showtime Fabric Market held June 3 to 6 in High Point, North Carolina. Around 200 manufacturers from six countries participated in the show’s International Pavilion. Nearly 200 buyers visited the Taiwan Pavilion, inking deals worth an estimated US$2.25 million in total, according to the federation.

Government tax revenues totaled NT$703.2 billion (US$23.5 billion) for January-May 2012, marking a record high for the first five months of the year, as well as an increase of 2.9 percent over the figure for the same period a year earlier, according to tallies released by the Ministry of Finance June 11.

Taiwan won two gold, three silver and four bronze medals on the third day of the 15th Asian Junior World Championships being held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, June 9 to 12. Among the gold medalists was Li Ting-yu, who set a national record in the 3,000-meter women’s steeplechase event with a time of 10 minutes, 44.94 seconds. Cheng Chao-tsun also grabbed gold in the men’s javelin with a throw of 74.68 meters. Taiwan’s overall medal haul stands at six golds, three silvers, and four bronzes with one day of competition left.
