Taiwan attends APEC energy meeting in Russia

An ROC delegation headed by Woody T.J. Duh, deputy minister of economics, has finished taking part in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation ministerial meeting on energy June 24 to 25 in St. Petersburg, Russia.Economic Affairs.

“At the event we presented our APEC Nuclear Safety and Nuclear Prevention Initiative, which was first proposed in 2011,” the Ministry of Economic Affairs said

“Through information sharing, knowledge dissemination and cross-organizational collaboration, our initiative aims to assist economies in building nuclear safety and nuclear disaster prevention capacities, and to promote APEC conformity in these areas.”

Issues discussed at the gathering included energy efficiency, energy security, the development of the nuclear and gas industries, challenges and opportunities of energy efficiency in the APEC region, promoting predictability and transparency of energy markets, and reducing uncertainties and risks of energy prediction.

A round-table forum was also held for the public and private sectors, the MOEA said, adding that energy and enterprise representatives from Russia and the U.S. offered perspectives on how to enhance the sustainable development of energy markets, while government officials from across the world exchanged opinions on the growth, management and visions of energy markets.

“The results of the APEC ministerial meetings and related events will be reported Sept. 8 to 9 during the 2012 APEC Leaders Meeting in Vladivostok, Russia,” event organizers said. (HZW)
