Taiwan’s agricultural and related industries generated roughly NT$1.53 trillion (US$51.23 billion) in added value for 2010, representing 11.21 percent of the island’s gross domestic product, according to a study by scholars commissioned by the Council of Agriculture.
The Taiwan Culture Center in Paris has selected five Taiwanese performing troupes to take part under the theme of Taiwan Calling in the Avignon off arts festival to be held in the southeastern French city July 7 to 28.
The Taipei Municipal First Girls’ Senior High School marching band has been invited to head to Austria July 9 to 15 to perform at the Mid Europe in Schladming, one of the continent’s largest wind ensemble festivals. A total of 40 bands from around the globe are slated to participate in this year’s event.
Comedic actor Rob Schneider is set to arrive in Taiwan with his wife July 6 for another visit, at the invitation of the Tourism Bureau. During his stay, he will shoot a film promoting Taiwan to an international audience. Schneider has visited Taiwan several times over the years and is very familiar with the island’s famous scenic spots and culinary delights.
