UK band tunes up support for ROC Olympians

A trio of British musicians who lived in Taiwan for over five years will show their support for ROC Olympic athletes in a July 28 concert at London’s Roundhouse Studio Theatre.

During the performance, Transition will play its song “Olympic Dream,” co-written with Taiwan-born singer-songwriter Wing Luo and sung in Mandarin.

“Music is a great morale booster,” said Thomas W. Tsai, president of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee. “I believe the song will help encourage our athletes to push themselves to ever greater breakthroughs.”

“We wrote the song to bring supporters together and inspire the athletes; we want them to know they have fans in the U.K. as well,” the band noted.

The trio, comprising Niall Dunne and brothers Josh and Jesse Edbrooke, all of Bristol, was first formed in 1997. After playing at a southern Taiwan festival in 2005, the musicians decided to relocate to Taipei.

Over the past three years, while still based in Taiwan, the group performed in Hong Kong, Japan, mainland China, Singapore and South Korea. Now back at home in the U.K., the band is working on an album entirely in Mandarin, which is set to be released late 2012, concert organizers said.

Their music is marked by harmonious vocals, upbeat lyrics and heavy influence from Asian musical traditions, including use of the guzheng, or Chinese zither, in their recent works.

The Summer Olympics are scheduled for July 27 to Aug. 12. (THN)
