U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton praised Taiwan’s democracy and prosperity during a July 9 speech at the Mongolian Parliament in the capital Ulan Bator. She described the island as a model for other nations and lauded its peaceful and smooth holding of the ROC presidential election earlier this year.
Taiwan’s Institute for Information Industry signed a memorandum of understanding July 19 with the Korea Productivity Center on jointly developing service applications and holding international exchange activities. The collaboration is expected to attract more innovators in Asia to work to tap into world markets.
Taiwan defeated South Korea 8-4 in the finals of Pony Baseball’s Bronco League Asia-Pacific tournament in Nanjing, mainland China, July 14, earning the right to represent Asia at the Bronco League World Series slated to kick off in Monterey, Calif., Aug. 1. The squad of 11- and 12-year-olds, mostly from Taitung County’s Xinsheng Elementary School, won all five of its games, beating teams from the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong and mainland China in earlier rounds.
Canadian Member of Parliament Harold Albrecht, deputy whip of the Conservative Party, will lead a 12-member parliamentarian delegation on a visit to Taiwan July 20-26. The aim of the visit is to gain a better understanding of the latest developments in Taiwan in a range of areas, including politics, foreign policy, trade and economics, agriculture, and education.
