ROC business heads fly corporate flag at APEC

ROC captains of industry are set to fly Taiwan’s corporate flag at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum meetings Sept. 4-6 in Vladivostok, Russia.

Tsai Hong-tu, chairman of Cathay Financial Holding Co., Matthew Miao, chairman of MiTac-Synnex Group, and Cher Wang, chairwoman of HTC Corp., will act as Taiwan’s nominees to the APEC Business Advisory Council.

They join former ROC Vice President Lien Chan, who is ROC President Ma Ying-jeou’s envoy at the APEC Leaders’ Meeting Sept. 8-9, the fifth time he has served in this capacity.

Tsai, head of the business leaders’ delegation, will accompany Lien in meetings with Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak.

Miao, who co-chairs the APEC working body on regional economic integration, is expected to hold discussions with mainland Chinese leader Hu Jintao and other heads of states on promoting the authorized economic operator scheme for fast-tracking customs clearance procedures.

Wang, chairwoman of the ABAC women’s forum and co-chair of the APEC working group on sustainable development, will exchange views with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda on expanding investment and technology transfers, boosting small and medium enterprise cooperation for innovative growth, as well as fostering young entrepreneurs.

ABAC was created by APEC economic leaders in November 1995 to offer advice from the private sector on policy priorities and areas of cooperation. Up to three members from each economy are appointed to the body representing a variety of industries. (JSM)
