MOFA hosts culture camp for West Asian youth

An international culture camp for youth from West Asia organized by the ROC Ministry of Foreign Affairs kicked off June 20, with 23 young people from seven countries taking part.

“I’m sure this activity will help increase understanding of Taiwan and its culture and help people from the region feel our friendship for the nations of West Asia,” MOFA Deputy Minister Simon Shen-yeaw Ko said at the opening ceremony.

Officials from the representative offices of Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates also attended the ceremony.

The ministry said it has organized such camps over the past several years to introduce the culture of Taiwan internationally, with different themes each time. This year’s camp focuses on caring for the planet, with an introduction to Taiwan’s diverse natural environment through trips to noted nature spots around the island, including Taijiang and Taroko national parks.

Participants in the camp, which will run through June 29, will also visit MOFA agencies, as well as historically important cultural spots, and will be briefed on the country’s green energy and environmental protection policies.

They will also get a first-hand glimpse into the operations of Taiwan’s organic agricultural industry and tour the Beitou Incinerator and the Foundation of Ocean Taiwan to learn more about the nation’s efforts to conserve both land and marine natural resources.

MOFA held a similar camp in May of this year for young people from Israel, Mongolia and Russia. (SB-THN)
