Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Chin-tien Yang confirmed June 23 that former ROC Representative to Singapore Vanessa Yea-ping Shih has been appointed deputy foreign minister. Shih earlier served as minister of the now defunct Government Information Office. Yang said her rich experience in diplomacy and international communications will be helpful to the ministry in related work.
The 22nd Taipei International Food Show is slated to be held at the Taipei World Trade Center’s Exhibition Hall 1 and Nangang Exhibition Hall June 27-30. The Food Taipei event being organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) will be the largest in scale to date, with more than 1,500 manufacturers setting up over 3,500 display booths.
The ROC Ministry of Education said June 22 that it has signed a cooperative memorandum of understanding with Colorado’s education department. Under the agreement, the U.S. state will recruit Chinese-language instructors from Taiwan, and the two sides will consider setting up dual degree programs in which students can obtain bachelor’s degrees by studying for two years each at a school in Taiwan and in Colorado, according to the ministry.
Taiwan’s Chen Hung-lin and Cheng Wen-hsing won the badminton mixed doubles title at the Li-Ning Singapore Open June 24. It marks the pair’s second Badminton World Federation Super Series title after earlier winning the Japan Open. (SB)
