Cultural expo boosts Taiwan industries

The Taiwan International Cultural and Creative Industry Expo, scheduled Oct. 18-21 in Taipei City, will help local businesses market their products and ideas, according to the ROC Ministry of Culture.

“The fair will serve as a matchmaking platform, bringing microenterprise owners together with interested buyers and investors, both from home and abroad,” Deputy Culture Minister Chang Yun-cheng said at a Taipei news conference July 4.

“With more than a decade of efforts going into the development of this sector, the spotlight will put Taiwan’s tremendous well of originality on world view,” he added.

Now in its third year, the event will be held at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall.

The exposition will feature local firms and artists specializing in arts and crafts, design, performance art, music, films and other culture-related fields such as innovative packaging for agricultural products, Taiwan’s gourmet traditions and contemporary interior design, MOC sources said.

It will also coordinate with overseas institutions including the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators, Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization, Korea Craft and Design Foundation, as well as representatives from Central America, Malaysia and Thailand.

Last year’s fair, boasting a total of 457 exhibitors from 14 countries, saw over 71,000 visitors and generated turnover of more than NT$200 million (US$6.7 million), organizers said.

Chang Pen-tsao, chairman of the General Chamber of Commerce of the ROC, organizer of the event, said more than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend this year. (THN)
