The Taiwan Accreditation Foundation is holding a workshop March 20-23 to help improve the abilities of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation member economies to validate and verify greenhouse gases, the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced.

The workshop is part of efforts to prepare for the signing of a Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC) Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) on greenhouse gas validation and verification, the ministry said.

MOEA Deputy Minister Francis Kuo-hsin Liang said the TAF, commissioned by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection to sign a number of PAC MLAs, has demonstrated its competence in providing specialized accreditation services in a range of fields, including GHG validation and verification.

According to Liang, the workshop will help APEC economies establish accreditation systems in line with international standards, thereby laying the foundation for linkage with international carbon markets in the future.

A total of 29 lecturers and trainees from 17 APEC economies are taking part in the workshop. Representatives of domestic regulators and GHG validation and verification bodies have also been invited to share their experience, the ministry said.
