Taiwan-based Institute for Information Industry hosted a delegation from Kuwait’s top research organization April 25 and followed up on their cooperative agreement inked late last year.
The agreement between the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research and Taiwan’s NGO covers information and communication technology, green energy and science parks.
The information institute said with the support of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has been actively exploring Middle East markets in recent years. This has led to several project proposals in the region by Taiwan enterprises, in areas such as green energy, desalinization plants and geographic information systems, that could create more than US$100 million in business opportunities.
An agreement could be formally inked between Taiwan enterprises and the KISR to launch projects related to setting up an information system network at the Kuwaiti organization by as early as the second half of this year, the institute said.
According to sources, the KISR is using the successful model of the Hsinchu Science Park to build Kuwait’s first science park. Construction of the park in Kuwait City is expected to be completed by the end of 2015 at a price tag of several billion U.S. dollars.
While in Taiwan, the delegation headed by Naji Al-Mutairi, director general of the KISR, is also slated to visit several science and industrial parks, including those in Hsinchu, Neihu, Nangang and Wugu, as well as information system enterprises, government think tanks and research institutes. (SB)
