Avis Rent A Car System LLC, the world’s leading car rental company, began operations in Taiwan earlier this month, according to the ROC Ministry of Economic Affairs June 27.
“The car rental brand’s investment in Taiwan indicates the nation’s investment environment has gained recognition from foreign corporate and service industries,” the MOEA said. “Avis’ investment will help enhance the service standards of local car rental enterprises, strengthen the supporting measures for tourism and improve Taiwan’s overall national image.”
The MOEA noted that Taiwan currently has over 800 car rental companies. These companies, however, operate only in the Taiwan market, and more than 85 percent of them have a fleet of fewer than 20 cars.
“Taiwan is situated at the hub of Asia,” the MOEA said. “Following the nation’s continued economic development, its improved ties with mainland China, and increased demand from the business and tourist sectors, there is a need for international car rental corporations in Taiwan to help enhance relevant service qualities and standards.”
The MOEA added that Taiwan is the 175th country to be included in Avis’ service network.
Founded in 1946, Avis offers over 500,000 vehicles for rental at 5,200 locations worldwide. (HZW)
