The 2025 UK Elite Mini Conference came to Taiwan Feb. 8-14 through concerted efforts from the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Tourism Administration’s London office, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting Taiwan as a travel destination.
Since 2017 the annual event has seen popular travel YouTubers congregate in a host country and feature the destination’s tourist attractions on their channels, the TA said. According to the administration, 22 popular YouTubers, video creators, workshop lecturers and travel bloggers such as Sima Sthanakiya and Ellie Green were invited to this year’s edition.
The TA first took the influencers to the National Center for Traditional Arts in the northeastern county of Yilan, where they tried out medicine- and tea-making experiences. The group also enjoyed the hot springs of nearby Jiaoxi Township.
Welcoming conference attendees to Taipei 101 in the capital, TA Deputy Director Lin Hsin-jen expressed hope that this year’s conference would facilitate deeper understanding of Taiwan’s unique charm and hospitality through its traditional culture, modern cityscapes and natural landscapes, and gourmet cuisines. While at the landmark building, the group learned about the impressive engineering of the tuned mass damper that enables it to withstand strong winds and earthquakes.
Linda Yu-shan Lin, director of the TA’s London office, noted that Generation Z has become a major demographic for the travel industry to consider. She said that 70 percent of Gen Z travelers select destinations based on information learned on social networking platforms. The TA clarified that Gen Z refers to those born between the end of 1990s and the beginning of 2010s. (POC-E)
