The National Science and Technology Council staged the 13th Taiwan-India Joint Committee Meeting on Cooperation in Science and Technology Nov. 17 in Taipei City.
NSTC Deputy Minister Chen Bing-yu and Secretary Abhay Karandikar of India’s Department of Science and Technology co-hosted the forum, the council said, adding that Chen Mu-min, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, and Vishwanjali Murlidhar Gaikwad, acting director general of the India Taipei Association, also delivered remarks.
According to the council, Deputy Minister Chen described the two countries as economic partners that are aligned on emerging technologies and innovative development and said he hoped to see further bilateral collaborations that could enhance Taiwan’s global visibility and influence.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on technological cooperation in 2007, the NSTC said. The partnership has subsidized nearly 150 research projects and held 30 bilateral conferences to date, the council added, building an effective exchange platform and collaborative mechanism through long-term academic cooperation and reciprocal visits.
The NSTC said that in recent years, applications for collaborative projects have grown significantly while the number of subsidized programs has also increased from eight in 2021 to 15 in 2025.
Bilateral conferences in important fields, such as an event on quantum technology held in Bangalore, India, in September, are being funded by both parties to facilitate in-depth discussions on new developments and research. A forum on artificial intelligence is set for next year in Taiwan to promote substantive cooperation in this sector, the NSTC added. (POC-E)
