Participating companies also agreed to continue talks on another US$200 million worth of deals in the near future, bringing the total amount of business generated for Taiwan firms to roughly US$554 million.
Representatives of more than 20 Henan-based companies and 78 Taiwan firms took part in the Dec. 16 procurement event at the Grand Hotel in Taipei City.
Among them were Honor Trust Technology Co. Ltd. that signed US$80 million worth of deals to purchase electronic goods from local enterprises, and Dennis Department Store Co. that plans to procure some NT$7.1 billion worth of Taiwan-grown fruit and other local specialty products over the next year.
Also attending were representatives of CPC Corp. Taiwan that secured a deal to supply US$15 million worth of petroleum coke to a Henan-based company, as well as E-Ton Solar Tech Co. Ltd. and Neo Solar Power Corp. that together inked contracts to supply US$80 million worth of solar panels.
Other procurement deals included a total of US$88.4 million worth of food and other small retail products, US$30 million worth of handicrafts, as well as machinery equipment (US$20.5 million) and textile products (US$1.5 million). Orders for the purchase of roughly 1,020 tons of Taiwan fruit were also secured at the gathering.
Yu Guangchun, chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Henan Province, said that in addition to the purchase of Taiwan products, this visit has also brought a series of benefits to Taiwan, including the raising of funds for the construction of a martial arts school on the island, the organizing of some 100,000 mainland tourists to visit Taiwan next year, as well as preferential treatment for investment in Henan by Taiwan businesses.
According to Taiwan External Trade Development Council tallies, total procurements by the eight major mainland Chinese business delegations that have visited the island this year, including the Henan mission, amount to an estimated US$15 billion. (SB)
