A post-election visit by a U.S. delegation is warmly welcomed by Taiwan’s government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jan. 14 in Taipei City.
The U.S government cross-party group were led by former U.S. National Security Advisor Stephen J. Hadley and former U.S. deputy secretary of state James B. Steinberg, accompanied by American Institute in Taiwan chair Laura Rosenberger. The group expressed congratulations on the successful election as well as continued firm support for the country.
The delegates’ three-day itinerary includes an audience with President Tsai Ing-wen, as well as meetings with high-ranking government officials and political leaders. An in-depth exchange of views on various issues of importance to both sides and future prospects will form part of discussions.
According to the MOFA, the U.S. has been an important partner in Taiwan’s democratic development and has repeatedly supported and recognized the country’s achievements by releasing open statements or through its actions on international platforms.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s congratulations on the election results and the U.S. bi-partisan delegation visit signify unanimous support for the country. The public recognition of the upholding of democratic values is vital to the country’s standing in the global community.
The MOFA said that based on such robust ties, Taiwan will further the comprehensive partnership with the U.S. and mutually promote regional peace, stability and prosperity. (POC-E)
