Taiwan has continued to make strides in deepening trade relations with allies and like-minded partners in 2025 on the strength of the government’s integrated diplomacy policy and the hard work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and associated overseas offices.
According to the MOFA, the second quarter was marked by global financial volatility stemming from uncertainties such as U.S. tariffs and shifting geopolitics. However, the ministry and its overseas offices successfully expanded semiconductor supply chain cooperation and exchanges with the Free State of Bavaria in Germany, Czechia, Malaysia, the Netherlands and the U.S., it said.
Other recent MOFA achievements include exploring new energy and carbon rights cooperation, the ministry said, citing Taiwan’s participation in the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference in the U.S. The MOFA added that it strengthened collaboration with partners in key industries during Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s visit to Eswatini to launch a strategic oil reserve project with King Mswati III and through the inking of three pillar agreements under the Taiwan-U.K. Enhanced Trade Partnership arrangement, among other examples.
The ministry also helped advance agriculture, smart medical care and sustainable tourism in Brazil, Fiji and Palau while playing a key role in creating safe and reliable communication networks at the Developments in Digital Cities and Challenges in Cyber Security in the Caribbean Forum in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The MOFA further praised overseas offices in Japan for their work on the World Expo 2025 Tech World pavilion.
Additionally, the ministry has continued to make the case for Taiwan to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and welcomed several resolutions passed by U.S. state legislatures to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.
The MOFA and its overseas offices maintained momentum on flagship projects under the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project and helped enterprises from Taiwan set up branches overseas, the ministry said. It will further help ease export and investment restrictions and strengthen economic and trade collaboration with partners worldwide to enhance the country’s resilience amid the changing international landscape, the ministry added.
