The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the recent visit to Eswatini of tourism industry professionals from Taiwan will boost tourism in the African ally and promote further exchanges between the two countries.

The delegation, which received support from the MOFA, includes 17 representatives from travel agencies as well as the Taipei City-based Travel Agent Association of ROC, Taiwan. During their Sept. 25-Oct. 2 trip, delegates met with Jane Mkhonta-Simelane, Eswatini’s minister of tourism and environmental affairs. They took in traditional handicraft experiences and dance performances, visited local tribes and a wildlife park, and spoke with professional peers in Eswatini to share experiences and exchange insights.

To help explore the potential of Eswatini as a destination, the MOFA said the group learned about Eswatini’s natural and cultural landscapes firsthand. The ministry added that delegates look forward to integrating ecological tours focused on Africa’s “Big Five” popular animals and traditional celebrations such as the Marula Festival, which marks the harvest and use of the eponymous fruit, into new itineraries for the Taiwanese market.

The visit followed Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s trip to Eswatini as a presidential envoy in April, the MOFA noted. The two countries’ relationship has grown steadily since diplomatic ties were established in 1968, the ministry said, adding that it will continue to advance the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to deepen cooperation with Eswatini across the board and jointly promote sustainable tourism and mutual prosperity.
