FM Lin speaks to global reporters on diplomatic progress

Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung discussed the latest developments in integrated diplomacy at a briefing hosted by the Taiwan Foreign Correspondents’ Club Nov. 12 in Taipei City.
 
Lin said the government is promoting values-based diplomacy and forging the nation into a thriving global economic powerhouse, adding that, since taking office, he has visited 11 allies to monitor progress on Taiwan’s projects to assist with digitalization, technological development and talent cultivation. The minister spoke of the Taiwan-Paraguay Smart Technology Park and the Taiwan Industrial Innovation Park in Eswatini as examples of the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project in action.
 
In addition to working with allies, the government has also deepened collaboration with like-minded partners, Lin said, citing the U.K.’s joining of the Global Cooperation Training Framework as a full partner this year. The MOFA also said that Lin visited Europe several times this year to stimulate culture and technology exchanges, adding that he emphasized Taiwan’s indispensable role in Europe’s reindustrialization and the restructuring of its supply chains.
 
In terms of Taiwan-U.S. relations, the minister indicated that Taiwan is working toward further collaboration with the U.S. in key industries such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors to expand democratic supply chains and enhance economic resilience.
 
Discussing the relationship with Japan, Lin described the two countries as major partners in the first island chain and spoke of Taiwan’s hope of joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership with Japan’s backing. He also said that Taiwan looks forward to opening negotiations with Japan on an economic partnership agreement. (POC-E)
