The Nov. 23-28 visit by a group of media staff from Paraguay was a success in enhancing awareness of Taiwan’s democratic governance, national security, technology development and Taiwan-Paraguay cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
According to the MOFA, the group comprised journalists from various media outlets, including newspapers, television networks and radio channels such as ABC Color, La Nación, Telefuturo and Monumental. While in Taiwan, they met with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung and Deputy Foreign Minister François Chih-chung Wu and called on semiconductor, information and communications technology and space technology agencies.
Taiwan attaches great importance to assisting allies in the process of establishing sustainable industries, Lin noted, adding that the country is willing to share its technology development experience to help Paraguay create an investment-friendly environment through the Taiwan-Paraguay Smart Technology Park.
The foreign minister further said the government will also facilitate Paraguay in creating value-added products, generating employment opportunities and jointly expanding the Southern Common Market and markets in America and Europe, while planning to work with the U.S. to include Paraguay in the global non-red supply chains and secure it a key role in artificial intelligence industry development.
Meeting with the group, Wu said Taiwan will facilitate its allies to gain a strategic position in establishing reliable technology supply chains. He added that Paraguay is attractive to Taiwanese enterprises on the strength of its abundant green energy and tax advantages for U.S. destined exports.
The MOFA said members of the visiting press group published over 30 reports, comments and audio and video content. The articles and content described Taiwan as a reliable partner and focused on Taiwan’s democracy, education and technology development, while also discussing the non-red supply chain layout and the risk of Chinese influence.
ABC Color and La Nación further elaborated on eight flagship plans under the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project and some quoted Lin’s remarks on Taiwan’s proposed cooperation model, which centers on transparent governance, personnel cultivation and industrial upgrade, the ministry added. (YCH-E)
