National Taiwan University of Science and Technology’s College of Design was listed fourth in the world on the 2010 “iF ranking university” released April 12.
This means the college has moved up four places on the list and topped all other design schools in Taiwan.
This is the second year the prestigious iF International Forum Design in Germany has published its annual university ranking list, based on the number of awards received in the iF concept award over the last three years. A school receives 20 points in the ranking when one of its students wins an iF concept prize.
NTUST scored 160 points, 140 points fewer than the leading Samsung Art & Design Institute in South Korea.
Chen Lin-lin, dean of the College of Design, noted that the college has always done well. “Our students garnered NT$1.88 million (US$59,600) in incentives from the Ministry of Education for their international art and design competition projects in 2007, leading all schools in Taiwan,” she pointed out.
Nine other schools in Taiwan placed in the top 100 in the iF ranking, including Shih Chien University at 12th with 100 points and National Taipei University of Technology at 16th, scoring 80 points.
National Cheng Kung University and National Chiao Tung University tied for 28th with 60 points, while Ming Chi University of Technology, National Kaohsiung Normal University, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology and Shu-Te University shared 41st with 40 points. Chaoyang University of Technology’s 20 points put it at 57th.
The iF Design has also announced an “iF creative” list, on which the Samsung Group, Apple Inc. and Siemens Ltd. are rated the best design companies in the world. (TYH-THN)
