ROC first lady Chow Mei-ching arrived in Moscow, Russia June 9 in her capacity as Cloud Gate Dance Theatre’s honorary director during its appearance at the Chekhov International Theatre Festival.
According to her aides, Chow received special courtesies at the Frankurt Airport in Germany while transiting. Maria Malkina, assistant director of the festival, Antonio C.S. Chen, the ROC’s top representative to Moscow and major Cloud Gate dancers welcomed the first lady at the Moscow Domodedovo Airport with bouquets of flowers.
“I give my best wishes to Cloud Gate and will cheer for them,” Chow said when later arriving at her hotel.
Chow visited the Moscow P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory June 10. Passionately greeted by Principal Alexander Sololov and his wife, Chow said she was amazed by the profound musical talents of the students.
Lunching with the Chekhov festival’s managing director Valery Shadrin, the first lady gladly agreed to lead Cloud Gate for a return appearance in the 2013 festival.
Chow later attended Cloud Gate’s “Whisper of Flowers” in the evening at the Mossovet Theatre.
The first lady is also scheduled to watch performances of the ballet “Carmen” and the opera “La Boheme” while in Moscow, as well as visiting the Kremlin and the Armoury Museum.
Chow will leave Moscow at noon June 14 Taipei time and arrive at Taiwan on the morning of June 15. (THN)
