The 2011 Taipei TV Festival, the world’s leading Chinese-language TV program trading platform, is scheduled to take place Sept. 21 to 23 in the capital to promote Taiwan’s quality TV programs and bolster international cooperation and exchanges, according to the Government Information Office.
GIO Minister Philip Yang said at a warm-up news conference Sept. 6 that the event plays an important role in bringing Taiwan’s television industry, which has an annual production value of NT$100 billion (US$3.4 billion), to the international stage.
“Taiwan’s diverse television programs have seen growing international popularity over the years for their fine production,” Yang said.
“I believe we will witness greater success for TTF, as we are ushering in a new era of digital high definition TV next year.”
The ROC government has begun its nationwide digital television switchover operations to phase out analog wireless TV signals and completely switch to digital TV.
Patrick C.T. Wang, director of the GIO’s Department of Broadcasting Affairs, said the eighth annual TTF is seeing a record-breaking 84 exhibitors from around the world, and India, France and Mexico are participating in the festival for the first time. Two heavyweight Hungarian media outlets will also come to explore cooperation possibilities with Taiwan Public Television Service, he added.
According to Wang, this year’s event is expected to attract over 2,000 international buyers and generate a sales volume of over NT$2 billion compared to NT$1.85 billion the previous year.
Highlights of the three-day event will include an exhibition on international television digital content, and an introduction of the government’s shooting assistance and resources for production companies, including tours of superb shooting locations in Taiwan. (HZW)
