Hsinchu County’s Ton-Yen General Hospital has partnered with U.S.-based My Egg Bank, the world’s biggest egg cell storage facility, to bring the latest fertility treatments to Taiwan, TYGH announced July 4.
“Cooperation with MEB will be able to solve the reproductive worries of many women who are infertile,” TYGH President Huang Tsung-hsan said after the two institutions signed a memorandum of technical cooperation on in vitro treatments at Hsinchu County Government building in Zhubei City. “It can also help young women who have cancer but plan to have children.”
“We want to set up a branch to share the latest in vitro cryotechnology with Asia,” MEB scientific director Jeremy Chang said. “Hsinchu County is a great location for biotechnology development, as it has a dense electronics industry base, good infrastructure and is close to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.”
Chang was accompanied by professor Jack Y. J Huang of California-based Stanford University’s Fertility and Reproductive Medicine Center.
“TYGH has already introduced Stanford University’s most advanced fertility treatments to Taiwan, bringing Hsinchu County up to international standards and boosting the in vitro fertilization success rate. The alliance with MEB is further great news for childless couples,” Huang said.
MEB, based in Atlanta, Georgia, works with more than 50 hospital fertility clinics in the U.S. and Canada, with over 1,000 births per year resulting from more than 2,000 cryo treatments. (SDH)
