Featuring displays, performances and workshops, the three-month program is geared toward all ages and promotes public awareness of glove puppetry. It also includes shows from troupes in Tainan and Yunlin.
As part of the launch ceremony, performances were staged by locally based Happy Puppetry Company and 100-year-old-plus Hsiao Hsi Yuan Puppet Theater. These were followed by a show presented by the puppetry club from Xinzhuang Elementary School, which was formed 25 years ago.
Hsu Wang, legendary Taiwan glove puppeteer and art director of Hsiao Hsi Yuan Puppet Theater, was on hand to share his knowledge and skills with students.
According to the city's Cultural Affairs Department, the exhibition hall has organized more than 36 related displays and 47 workshops since opening in 2004. (DF-JSM)
