Designed by renowned Taiwan architect Kris Yao, the NT$2.17 billion (US$68.9 million), 36,000-square-meter facility incorporates a children’s and contemporary arts museum, as well as a multifunctional performance hall and open-air theater.
The fine arts museum’s location between Dahan and Yingger rivers is easily accessible via public transport and close to related venues nearby. These include Li Mei-shu Memorial Gallery, New Taipei City Hakka Museum, San-Ying Art Village, Tai-hwa Pottery and Yingge Ceramics Museum.
Lin Kuan-yu, director of NTCG’s Cultural Affairs Department, said the combination of diverse cultural facilities, the local porcelain industry and a thriving art scene will transform the riverside community into an international-standard center for the artists and residents.
“New Taipei is also bidding for the establishment of Taiwan’s national aboriginal museum on a 32-hectare watefront site in the area, with the winner expected to be announced in May by the Council of Indigenous Peoples.”
According to Lin, the interconnectivity of the museum cluster is certain to produce optimal results for the promotion of art and culture. “We will continue integrating resources and improving infrastructure, raising the bar for cultural and creative development in Taiwan,” he said. (YHC-JSM)
