Taiwan won three golds and two silvers at the FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards May 30, highlighting the country’s growing reputation as a regional hub for creativity and innovation.

The three golds went to Hinoki Village in Heritage (Restoration/Conservation), Taipei City metro Da-an Park Station in Public Infrastructures/Amenities and Shanshuilu Eco-Park in Environmental (Rehabilitation/Conservation).

Hinoki Village restoration project comprises the largest collection of traditional Japanese buildings in Taiwan, according to Chiayi Forest District Office under the Forestry Bureau.

Since its inauguration early last year, the site has attracted more than 1.5 million visitors and collected several local construction and engineering honors, including the FIABCI Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Award.

Similarly praiseworthy is Da-an Park Station. Opened in November 2013, the facility’s spacious open-air garden, lush vegetation, sunlit walkways and water curtain earned it a reputation as an urban oasis.

Shanshuilu Eco-Park is another green asset in Taipei. Established as a landfill in 1993, the former eyesore transformed into a 21-hectare park on the back of residents embracing recycling and sorting household trash. It opened in October 2013 and represents the new face of Nangang District, according to Taipei City Government’s Department of Environmental Protection.

The two silvers went to Tainan Shuijiaoshe Park in the category of Environmental (Rehabilitation/Conservation) and a building at National Nantou Special School in the category of Public Infrastructures/Amenities.

Organized by Paris-headquartered International Real Estate Federation, the awards recognize projects best embodying the FIABCI ideal of providing society with the optimal solution to its property needs. Taiwan has won 12 golds and 24 silvers at the event since 2007. (SFC-JSM)
