The 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Sports Policy Network Roundtable Meeting and Forum took place Feb. 6-7 in Yokohama, Japan, with representatives from participating economies sharing experience of global sports trend and discussing the application of sports technology innovation in major sports events.

According to the Ministry of Education’s Sports Administration, the two-day event was organized by the ministry and implmented by Taiwan National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University’s Center of Industry Accelerator and Patent Strategy.

It is an essential part of an initiative proposed by Taiwan in 2016 under the APEC Human Resources Development Working Group, with co-sponsorship from many other member economies. The meeting saw around 100 participants from 11 APEC member economies, including sports officials from Taiwan’s SA and counterparts from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, among other countries.

During the roundtable meeting, participants focused discussions on diversity, equity and inclusion in sports and sports innovation. The forum that followed featured keynote speeches and panel discussions promoting sports innovation, as well as demonstrations of sports tech startups.

Other highlights of the event included presentations by the SA promoting the upcoming 2025 World Masters Games set to take place May 17-30 in Taiwan’s Taipei and New Taipei Cities, and the 2026 International Children’s Games to be held in the eastern city of Hualien.

There were also briefings by the organization committees on the planning of the 2026 Asian Para Games to take place in Japan’s Nagoya and 2027 WMG set for the Kansai area, as well as visits by the ASPN delegation to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the organizing committee for updates on the 2025 Deaflympics set for November in the capital city of Japan.
