The 4th edition of Taiwan-Austria Higher Education Forum was staged April 29 in Vienna, underscoring bilateral commitment to exchange at tertiary level.

Representatives from over 20 Taiwan and Austrian universities attended, other visitors included Liu Suan-yung, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Austria as well as the Republic of Austria's Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research officials, the Ministry of Education said.

The event introduced the two countries’ higher education systems, scholarships and ways to increase bilateral collaboration. Participants also shared successful examples of two-way academic cooperation, research and student-to-student exchange.

The MOE noted that the first edition was held in November 2015, while the second took place in 2016 in Vienna. During the Covid-19 pandemic, a third conference was conducted online in March 2021 and this year’s event was the first face-to-face forum post-pandemic.

As of 2025, there are around 120 academic exchange agreements between the two countries. Currently, a total of 156 Austrian students are studying in Taiwan, while 401 Taiwanese are pursuing education in Austria, the ministry added.

The event has laid a robust foundation for further academic cooperation, the MOE concluded. (POC-E)
