A memorandum of understanding was concluded between the National Museum of Taiwan Literature and the Moravian Library in the Czech Republic Dec. 9, reflecting commitment to boosting mutual cultural exchanges.

The deal was signed via video link by NMTL Director Nikky Lin in Tainan City, southern Taiwan, and her Czech counterpart Tomas Kubicek in the Czech city of Brno.

Ke Liang-ruey, head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague and David Steinke, head of the Czech Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, were both present to witness the signing.

According to the NMTL, the MOU covers exhibitions and publications, as well as personnel exchange and training cooperation and other mutual interests.

During her remarks, Lin said the MOU is expected to pave the way for the museum to expand its presence in Central Europe. Thanks to this arrangement the Moravian Library will provide much needed assistance as the NMTL begins to prepare for an exhibition featuring Czech literature in 2024, she added.

Ke said Taiwan and the Czech Republic both have distinctive heritage and shared a similar path towards freedom and democracy. This positive cultural development will promote greater and deeper exchanges, he added.

In response, Kubicek said interchange between the two libraries began long before the MOU, citing an exhibition that opened the same day in Brno showcasing Taiwan literature on ecology, gender and human rights among other topics. The director said he looks forward to visiting the NMTL in the future. (SFC-E)
