Taiwan’s National Symphony Orchestra set to stage concert at Kennedy Center in Washington

Taiwan’s National Symphony Orchestra, also known as the Taiwan Philharmonic, has scheduled its first John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts concert April 19 in Washington, D.C., according to the Ministry of Culture.
 
Jointly organized by Taiwan Academy under the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. and Washington Performing Arts, the concert will be conducted by NSO’s Jun Markl and feature Taiwan violinist Paul Huang.
 
The highlight of the program is the world premiere of “Ebbs and Flows” by Taiwan composer Chen Ke-chia, the MOC said, adding that other pieces include “Scottish Fantasy,” a work by Max Bruch that was inspired by Scottish folk songs; “The Hebrides Overture” by Felix Mendelssohn; and "La Mer" by Claude Debussy.
 
The concert is part of NSO’s “From Formosa” U.S. tour, which runs from April 14 to 23 and includes stops in New York and Chicago, the MOC added.
 
Established in 1986, the NSO has taken part it a wide range of productions. In addition, the orchestra regularly tours overseas and has visited cities including Berlin, Los Angeles, Milan, Paris, Singapore,Tokyo and Vienna.
 
The NSO aspires to resonate throughout the world as a cultural ambassador for Taiwan and is devoted to bringing joy to audiences through memorable performances, according to the orchestra. (YCH-E)
