Taiwan performing art groups, art facility representatives, agents and producers are set to attend the annual meetings of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals and the International Society for the Performing Arts in New York this month, highlighting government work to raise visibility in the international arts community.

According to the Ministry of Culture, representatives of the National Taichung Theater and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts will attend the Taiwan pavilion organized by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York’s Taipei Cultural Center as part of the activities staged during the APAP’s annual assembly Jan. 10-14. Other participants include Hung Dance, Jin Kwei Lo Puppetry Company, Resident Island Dance Theater, the Puppet & Its Double Theatre and the Unique Puppet Theater, the MOC said.

The groups are also planning to tour North America within the next two years, hoping to broaden their international reach and perform overseas, the MOC said. In addition, Hung Dance’s “Peter Pan,” a piece produced with NTT, was selected by the APAP’s “UP NEXT! Artist Pitch Session,” which offered groups a pitching opportunity to curators and event promoters in North America, the ministry added.

Another four Taiwan art personnel will be present at the ISPA annual conference Jan. 14-16 under the auspices of the ISPA Taiwan Fellowship Program, including the program’s 2023-2025 participants Hsu Tzu-yin, an independent agent; and BaoBao Chen, founder of a live music and film project Small Island Big Song; as well as selected 2025-2027 participants Lin Chih-wei, founder of Formosa Circus Art; and Lo Yin-ru, producer of Against Again Troupe.

The TCC said the center has participated in the APAP and ISPA annual assemblies for over a decade and has collected information about 59 performing groups that have attended the events. The center is committed to expanding Taiwan’s role in the meetings while cultivating performing arts administrative personnel to connect with the world, it added. (YCH-E)
