An exhibition of the work of Su Yu-xin is underway through May 25 at California-based Orange County Museum of Art, according to the Ministry of Culture.

“Searching the Sky for Gold,” which showcases 28 pieces by the Hualien-born artist, is a collaboration between the MOC and OCMA. The exhibition is the first time that the museum has displayed a solo show for an artist from Taiwan.

Su earned a master’s degree from Slade School of Fine Art at University College London, the MOC said, adding that her work has been exhibited in London, Dubai and Shanghai in addition to being featured at the 2018 Asian Art Biennial at the Taichung City-based National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

In “Searching the Sky for Gold,” Su continues to exercise her keen eye for the creation and use of color. For this event, Su utilized geological components from Hawaiian volcanoes, the California coast and Utah’s underground mines to develop pigments and engage the audience on the origin, function and potential of color.

According to the MOC, Chien Te-yuan, director of Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles, noted that OCMA places a special focus on the work of female artists since the facility was founded by 13 women and said that Su’s works would generate stimulating cultural dialogues. The ministry added that OCMA's director, Heidi Zuckerman, praised Su’s creative process as innovative and inspiring. (POC-E)
