The Ministry of Culture collaborated with Asia Art Archive and Taiwan Contemporary Culture LAB (C-LAB) to organize “Archive, or Found Objects,” which is underway through April 13.

The exhibition preserves elements of Paint House, an art venue that operated in the southern city of Tainan from 2000 to 2019, while also exploring what it means to make art in a place and how an art venue can become a creation in itself.

The MOC said that old signboards and huge screens installed in the gallery area evoke the atmosphere of an outdoor theater, while objects such as electric fans, a water tower, and old wooden chairs are displayed alongside simple kinetic installations in a fusion of nostalgia and novelty.

Artists Lin Huang-di and Wang Wan-ting, who were involved in the exhibit, held a workshop March 30 joined by more than 30 participants. The ministry said, adding that an international symposium on the topic of Asia’s independent art spaces is set to take place April 11-13, the ministry added. (POC-E)
