The rich creative offerings from Taiwan performing art groups garnered a positive reception at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe currently underway through Aug. 25 in the British city, the Ministry of Culture said Aug. 12.
According to the MOC, this year’s Fringe saw performances from Taipei-based Lu Production and Yinalang Group, Chun Dance from Taoyuan and Tainan-based Slashie With You Theatre. Their shows of dance, drama for children, magic and object theater received high rankings and complimentary reviews by several media outlets, the ministry said.
A “meet the artists” event held Aug. 11 as part of the festival’s Taiwan Season was also successful, the MOC said, adding that a reception hosted later the same day attracted over 250 artists, political figures and representatives of media outlets.
During remarks at the reception, Taiwan’s Rep. to the U.K. Vincent Chin-hsiang Yao said that the groups demonstrated the creativity and innovation of Taiwan’s artists. He also expressed a hope that participation in the festival would open avenues to further cultural exchange with other countries.
Members of the Scottish Parliament in attendance praised Taiwan’s diverse charms in art, music and performance. Tony Lankester, CEO of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, said Taiwan’s long-term participation in the event facilitates cooperation between organizations and groups from the two sides, and raise public understanding of Taiwan’s culture and people.
Founded in 1947, the EFF celebrates arts and culture from around the world. Taiwan Season was first launched in 2014 to showcase the country’s creativity at the Fringe. (YCH-E)
