Eight local craft and design brands will fly the flag for Taiwan at the 2025 Maison et Objet taking place Sept. 4-8 in Paris to flex the country’s soft power and rich cultural fabric.
According to the Ministry of Culture’s National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, the “Taiwan Crafts & Design” pavilion will comprise six sections themed Simplicity, Lifestyle, Originality, Health, Aesthetics and Sustainability. It aims to turn the focus on the country’s healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
Items on display include home decor, furniture, lighting fixtures and tableware made with materials such as bamboo, ceramics, metals, paper fibers, paper mulberry fibers, stone and wood.
In addition to showcasing local firms’ design concepts and use of diverse and composite materials, the products reflect the designers’ commitment to pursuing artistry while balancing the need for environmental protection, the NTCRDI said.
The pavilion will also include an exhibition of products developed as part of cooperative projects by the institute and the Ministry of Agriculture’s Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency. Made of bamboo, these items respond to the global sustainable design ethos and reflect a philosophy of coexistence with nature.
Launched in 1995, the Maison et Objet brings buyers and sellers from around the world to Paris every spring and autumn, with each edition attracting roughly 50,000 international participants. NTCRDI has led delegations to the biannual show since 2008. (SFC-E)
