In the run-up to the new year, a total of 44 events is set to be staged by city and county governments, national scenic areas and theme parks, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
In the north, Taipei New Year’s Eve Party 2026 will be launched Dec. 31 at the Taipei City Hall Square, with performances by domestic and international artists. The iconic Taipei 101 building will host the annual countdown firework show.
In central Taiwan, at Sun Moon Lake Shuishe Pier, Dec. 31 celebrations feature the Nantou County-based Man Hue Dance Company and Kaohsiung Max Fire, among other groups. The MOTC recommended 820-meter-high Jinlong Mountain, as a good place to appreciate the first sunrise of 2016.
In southern Taiwan, the Alishan Sunrise Concert will play on Jan. 1, 2026 at the Zhushan observation deck in the national park. The outlying islands offer a New Year’s Eve party at a cultural center in Lienchiang County’s Nangan Township and a flag-raising ceremony on New Year’s Day at a stadium in Beigan Township. (POC-E)
