Taiwan embarked upon a new era of global aviation collaboration following the country’s admission as a full member into the Amsterdam-based Civil Air Navigation Services Organization.
“We will now be able to get the latest air traffic management information from around the world,” an official from the Civil Aeronautics Administration said Jan. 14.
According to the CAA, its Air Navigation and Weather Services unit was granted CANSO membership from the beginning of this year. ANWS provides flight information, air traffic control, aeronautical telecommunication and meteorological services, as well as installing, operating and maintaining airway navigational facilities.
“This is an equally significant development as CANSO holds observer status in the International Civil Aviation Organization,” the official said. “Through its liaison office with the ICAO, Taiwan is expected to gain a better understanding of the organization’s policy directions.”
“CANSO is delighted to welcome ANWS to the Association,” organization Director General Graham Lake said in a news release. “Their experience and expertise will complement our global and regional activities, and we look forward to their contributions, especially at our Asia-Pacific Regional Conference in June.”
CANSO members are responsible for managing more than 65 percent of the world’s air space and supporting over 85 percent of global air traffic. More than 56 air service providers are members of CANSO while over 61 international aviation companies involved in the delivery of air traffic services have associate membership. (SB-ML-JSM)
