Collaboration between local game developer Xpec Entertainment Inc. and U.S.-based See Games LLC marks significant international expansion for Taiwan’s digital content sector, according to the Council for Economic Planning and Development Jan. 9.

During a ceremony at the CEPD, Xpec Chairman Aaron Hsu and See Games President Corey Redmond signed an agreement for Xpec to develop downloadable online games based on a big Hollywood franchise title provided by the U.S. firm for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

According to CEPD Minister Christina Y. Liu, digital content has always been a focus for government-organized offshore investment promotion tours, which have successfully connected Taiwan to the rest of the world.

“This cooperative relationship is further evidence that the council’s efforts are paying dividends,” said Liu. “We believe this deal will bring more attention to the competitiveness of Taiwan’s digital content sector.”

Hsu said, “This partnership will show the world that Taiwan is a top contender in online gaming,” adding that “Given Xpec’s proven track record and the rich IP resources of the See group, we believe there will be more mutually beneficiary collaboration to come.”

“See is very excided about this partnership,” said Redmond, adding that the cooperation will help the firm expand its business to Asia. “Our business relationship starts with this one game, but I hope that we can continue this relationship with Xpec and Taiwan and make other games in the future.”

Established in 2000, Taipei-based Xpec is a leading online game developer operating on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, while See Games, a subsidiary of See Global Entertainment, is a publisher of digital entertainment based on Hollywood intellectual properties owned by its parent company. (THN)
