The Industrial Development Bureau said Jan. 9 it has issued Taiwan E-scooter Standard (TES) certificates to three local electric motorcycle models, in recognition of their outstanding energy-saving technology.
The three models, EA10FA, ED1LU2 and EM1A6, were made by Kwang Yang Motor Co. Ltd., Sanyang Industry Co. Ltd. and China Motor Corp., respectively, the IDB said.
With their 20-ampere hour cells, the certified electric scooters can travel faster and farther than their predecessors from just a few years ago, according to the IDB.
They are also easier to operate and maintain, as their manufacturers offer charging services at maintenance stations located throughout the island, the IDB said, adding that the government is offering NT$10,000 (US$331) refunds on all purchases of the three models.
Kwang Yang and Sanyang are the two top gasoline-fueled motorcycle manufacturers in Taiwan, while China Motor is the nation’s largest electric scooter seller, having cornered almost 90 percent of the local market.
Knowing that excessive carbon emissions are a serious worldwide problem, the ROC government is committed to promoting the use of environmentally friendly electric vehicles, according to the IDB.
Since the TES system was established in 2009, 18 e-scooter models have received the TES seal of approval, the IDB said. (HZW)
