ROC Central Bank Gov. Perng Fai-nan departed May 2 for the Philippines to attend the Asian Development Bank’s 45th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors.
Perng is leading a large contingent from Taiwan, including officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives from the Taipei-based International Cooperation and Development Fund, it added.
Participants will exchange views on “Inclusive Growth through Good Governance,” the theme of the conference as set by the Manila host. They will focus on how to distribute the benefits of Asia’s fast economic rise to all levels of society, according to the ADB.
Growing inflation, fuel price spikes and the impact of climate change will also be discussed during the four-day event that ends May 5.
Officials from the central bank noted that the ADB’s development strategy from 2008 to 2020 calls on members to focus on inclusive growth, environmentally sustainable growth and regional integration. The bank has been pushing for both economic prosperity and quality of life in the region.
Officials said Perng will deliver a speech on the global financial situation and Asia’s increasing responsibility to the world’s economic growth.
According to the ADB, more than 4,000 delegates from around the world will take part in this year’s meeting, including Akihiko Tanaka, president of Japan International Cooperation Agency, Surin Pitsuwan, secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and Luis Alberto Moreno, president of the Inter-American Development Bank.
