Taiwan will expand its global pharmaceutical collaboration this year, taking the initiative to host international meetings on generic drugs and medications, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare Feb. 5./

The 30th International Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology and Therapeutic Risk Management, as well as the International Generic Drug Regulators Pilot meeting, are to be staged in Taiwan, further boosting the country’s profile in the worldwide generic drug industry, the MOHW said.

Taiwan chalked up substantial progress in consolidating pharmaceutical cooperation with global partners last year, the MOHW said, citing Taiwan’s European Pharmacopoeia observer status and the signing of a bilateral pharmaceutical regulatory cooperation framework agreement with Japan.

On the back of tireless efforts by the ROC Food and Drug Administration, Taiwan also became the 43rd participating authority, ahead of Japan, South Korea and mainland China, in the Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention and Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme, or PIC/S GMP—an international organization devoted to promoting good manufacturing practice and pharmaceutical inspection.

The MOHW said as of Dec. 31, 2014, PIC/S GMP standards will be implemented in all modern pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities in Taiwan. To date, there are 57 PIC/S GMP-certified manufacturers nationwide. (YHC-JSM)
