Total investment in the EPZ was NT$41.1 billion (US$1.3 billion). Key projects included the expansion of leading global chip-packager Advanced Semiconductor Engineering Inc. at the new EPZ campus in Kaohsiung City’s Nanzih District. The company has earmarked a budget of NT$73.4 billion for the project until 2017.
Others were the NT$1.6 billion headquarters of CECK Auto Parts Co. Ltd. in Pingtung County, and Wanin International’s NT$1 billion R&D facility for online games and mobile apps in Taichung City.
In terms of employment, the number of people working in the EPZ reached 81,500 in 2014, up 6,061 from the previous year. Hiring is expected to see further growth on the strength of six recent investments across EPZ campuses in Taiwan.
A total of NT$307.5 million was capitalized for these investments, which are projected to create at least 60 job opportunities within the EPZ, an MOEA official said.
According to the MOEA, the EPZ has attracted six new projects for January. These are Excellence Biotech Co. Ltd. investing in the development of antrodia cinnamomea-based health supplements, and i-Energy Co. Ltd. establishing a production line of microinverters for use in solar panels.
Antrada Technology Co. Ltd., a supplier of semiconductor equipment, is applying 3-D laser precision inspection technology to its IC packaging and testing products, while CCDN Technology Corp. is developing wireless and mobile solutions for e-commerce.
Jinwei Metals Corp. and Kutech Information Co. Ltd. are investing in industrial-grade alloy and matrix barcode reader businesses, respectively. (YHC-JSM)
