Deputy Foreign Minister Kelly Wu-chiao Hsieh attended a seminar on semiconductor investment opportunities in the Czech Republic Feb. 1 in Taipei City, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing two-way economic and business ties.
Jointly organized by Taipei-based Taiwan Eastbound Alliance—Landing America, Taiwan (R.O.C.) Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic and the Czech Economic and Cultural Office Taipei, the event involved over 100 officials from the Cabinet-level National Development Council, Ministry of Economic Affairs and CzechInvest, Czechia’s investment and business development agency, in addition to academics and business representatives.
Hsieh said during his remarks that Taiwan and the Czech Republic have enjoyed close cooperation in areas spanning culture, education, technology and trade over the past 30-plus years. The seminar will help the two sides further boost technological innovation and economic growth to pave the way for a solid bilateral relationship over the next three decades, he added.
The deputy minister also took the opportunity to thank Czech President Petr Pavel for voicing support for Taiwan at the U.N. General Assembly last September, as well as for his public congratulatory message following Taiwan’s presidential election in January.
According to CECO Head David Steinke, the like-minded partners’ relations are built on mutual trust and reciprocal benefits. The Czech government will provide investment incentives to attract more Taiwan businesses to the country, he said, adding that Czechia is sure to play a key role in European semiconductor supply chains and will give Taiwan enterprises a boost in the neighboring EU markets.
