The Ministry of Economic Affairs staged Taiwan Select April 23 in Taipei City to respond to challenges brought by the U.S.’ recent tariff policy and the restructuring of global supply chains.

The event attracted a total of 454 international buyers from 48 countries, facilitating an estimated revenue of over US$800 million for domestic businesses. Trade dialogue touched on sectors spanning automotive parts, e-commerce, electric vehicles, machinery, medical equipment, retail and smart manufacturing.

Among the heavyweight global enterprises taking part were Amazon U.K., Germany’s Siemens AG, South Korea’s LG Innotek Co., Vietnam’s Viettel Group, Walmart Mexico and the U.S.’s Panasonic Automotive Systems Co., underscoring Taiwan’s critical position in the global market, the MOEA said.

To assist local traditional industries impacted by tariffs, including the production of hand tools, machinery, and automotive and precision parts, the ministry arranged for 120 representatives from overseas corporations to visit an industry cluster in the central city of Taichung to give guests deeper insight into Taiwan’s manufacturing advantages.

Additionally, two more trade-matching activities will be respectively held in Taichung and southern Taiwan’s Kaohsiung City in the second half of the year with a focus on fasteners, machinery, metal manufacturing and plumbing hardware as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen domestic industries’ export competitiveness, the ministry concluded.
