Premier Cho Jung-tai anticipated that the newly established National Inter-University Research and Education Park will accelerate personnel cultivation and the development of Taiwan’s science and technology industries.

Cho made the remarks while attending the launch of the facility July 4 in the southern city of Kaohsiung’s Zuoying District. According to the Executive Yuan, the park permanently hosts teams from National Tsing Hua University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in the northern city of Hsinchu, and a total of 38 other tertiary institutions are involved in its operation.

Speaking at the ceremony, the premier said the park’s main mission is to advance key areas such as artificial intelligence, net-zero technology, semiconductors and smart cities. He added that the southern Taiwan Silicon Valley, which encompasses Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County, and the northern Taiwan Silicon Valley, which spans Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City and County, and Miaoli County, are the dual engines propelling Taiwan to the forefront of the global technological sector.

Cho went on to say that the park is part of President Lai Ching-te’s national strategy to stimulate the domestic economy. Related initiatives include completing 152 local infrastructure projects under the Six Major Regional Industries and Living Perimeters by 2026; developing domestic tourism through concerts, exhibitions, international conferences and sporting events; and expediting the reconstruction of unsafe and old urban buildings, he added, noting that a five-year budget of NT$13.2 billion (US$45.4 million) has been allocated for Zuoying.
