New digital affairs minister focuses on digital transition

Minister of Digital Affairs Lin Yi-jing committed to collaborate with academic and industrial sectors to forge an innovative, secure and citizen-centered digital society.
 
Lin made the remarks during a reception for the media Sept. 3 in Taipei City after being sworn in as the minister Sept. 1. The ministry has formulated four measures to respond to international competition in the sector, the minister said.
 
The first of the four measures is: further development of the artificial intelligence industry through leverage of computing power, data, funding, marketing and personnel, to build a healthy software ecosystem.
 
Second, strengthened security protection for government agencies, key infrastructure and industry supply chains as part of fulfilling social responsibility and economic development.
 
Third, anti-cyberfraud measures including a legal statute and the establishment of an information network. The minister noted that administration is actively collaborating with Google, Meta and Line to enhance overall anti-fraud contingency, he added.
 
The fourth is the construction of digital government infrastructure. AI technologies will be used to enhance administrative efficiency, in addition to establishing digital identity wallets, the minister stated.
 
Lin noted that the core mission of the ministry is to build an environment where information industries aid the economy and ameliorate social issues. (POC-E)
