Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung is on a visit to Palau through Dec. 21 accompanied by industry representatives from energy, medicine and tourism sectors, highlighting government commitment to strengthening economic ties with the allied nation.

The visit caps a year in which Lin attended the January inauguration of President Surangel Whipps Jr. as President Lai Ching-te’s special envoy, and in May, Whipps visited Taiwan to gain insight on the environmental protection, smart medicine and tourism industries, the MOFA said.

Lin and Whipps will examine progress on the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project initiatives, anticipating further Taiwan business investment in the ally, the ministry added.

Palau is scheduled to host the Pacific Islands Forum in 2026 in which Taiwan will participate. The event will showcase results from cooperative projects with allies spanning digital resilience, innovative technology, smart medicine and sustainable development. Taiwan is committed to continue working with Palau to facilitate mutual prosperity, the MOFA stated. (POC-E)
