The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced the 2025 white paper for small and medium enterprises Dec. 26 in Taipei City, underscoring government commitment to assisting business with economic transition.

The document analyzed current operations, trends and core transformation. Artificial intelligence, net-zero emissions and U.S. tariffs were also discussed. The MOEA said that it systematically compiled government policies and measures to tackle challenges, strengthen resilience and create opportunities.

In 2024, overall domestic SME performance is growing and stabilizes the country’s economy, the ministry noted. It added that the number of SME exceeds 1.7 million, accounts for over 98 percent of all companies, supports a workforce of around 9.194 million people and provides nearly 80 percent of jobs.

Sales volume surpassed NT$31trillion (US$1 trillion) and constituted over 50 percent of overall sales volume mainly due to strong domestic market demand.

The MOEA said that in January this year an initiative was launched to revitalize Micro-, Small- and Medium-enterprises through digital and net-zero transition to expedite innovation and inclusive growth. Faced with challenges, the ministry committed to upgrading economic competitiveness and advancing sustainability. (POC-E)
