FM Lin welcomes Paraguayan delegation

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lin Chia-lung committed to introduce the smart medicine and healthcare industry to Paraguay to benefit health and facilitate industry transition in the allied nation.
 
Lin met with Paraguay Minister of Health, María Teresa Barán and Adriana Amarilla, director general of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare international relations department, Jan. 27 in Taipei City.
 
The aim of the visit by the Paraguayan officials was to gain insight into Taiwan’s public health and social welfare systems. Their itinerary includes the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taipei City-based National Taiwan University Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
 
Lin recalled that last July during his visit to Paraguay he and Barán visited various medical and health cooperation projects, including the medical information management efficiency improvement program (HIS). The program was implemented in 2017 and now includes 1,188 Paraguayan hospitals.
 
Lin thanked Barán for her long-standing support for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly. In response, Barán expressed her gratitude to Taiwan for implementation of the HIS program and for construction assistance for the Asuncion Hospital.
 
Lin invited Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare, Lin Ching-yi, President of Cathay General Hospital, Chien Chih-cheng, Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Foundation Deputy Secretary General, Stephen J. H. Lee, and representatives from the smart medical industry to discuss issues including artificial intelligence in big data interpretation and telemedicine, and the direction of health industry integration between the countries with the Paraguayan officials.
